The Irish Independent talk about The Icon Walk project.

The Irish Independent talks about The Icon walk :

"ICONIC Irish writers and musicians are being enlisted to attract tourist footfall and enhance the values of property in some back streets and near some derelict property in Dublin's Temple Bar, The Icon Factory, an artists'co-operative, created images of famous Irish cultural Icons and are installing them on blank walls on these streets to create tourist trails known as The Icon Walk.

The Musicians wall features pictures of Irish Rock'n Roll legends Rory Gallagher, Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy, Bob Geldof and Sinéad O'Connor. The playwrights wall (above) features Icons such as Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, George Bernard Shaw and Brendan Behan along with a brief outline of their major achievements.

A spokesman for the Icon Factory explained: "There are number of laneways and side streets that have fallen into disrepair and are now rather lawless wich is a shame. The idea is to regain these back streets by installing artwork wich tells the story of Irish culture while drawing more people through these quieter streets and laneways".

The co-operative is also seeking sponsorship by way of donating a wall space or to pay for materials and other expenses. Sponsors can have their company logo displayed beside the icons.
